Just trying to build a better version of me :)

Its an on-going process that leads from one “renovation project” to another. As Ripley put it, “Now I’ve done it…I made a clean spot. I’ll have to do the whole thing.”

My mom taught me years ago that you can’t help what(or who) happens to you; you can only help what you do about it. She used to smile and say “its attitude, attitude, attitude!” which would drive me and my little sister up the wall, but now I understand a bit more than my teen-age self did.

Mom was right. Build your self a foundation that will stand no matter what or who happens. Certainly, there are wonderful things and people in life, but there are no guarantees. Not for situations, circumstance and certainly not for people.

So even if it seems your world has fallen apart; if the very person you believed in the most turns out to have feet of clay; no matter if you put your tender heart in a blender, hit ‘frappe’, and its to no avail; no matter if your job goes away; not even if you lose every material possession — no matter what or who happens, as hard as it may be, you really can help what you do about it and what you allow in your heart, mind, and soul.

So, my goal is to help what I do about what happens to me- both for the things that are my responsibility and for those things that I can’t control, and keeping a careful watch on what I allow in my heart, my mind and my soul. Wish me luck; I’ll take all the help I can get…. :)

Wow. What a heart-felt and sincere profile you created! It’s really lovely meeting you… thanks for sharing. If I can be of any help, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I had a teacher once tell me that “we’re all works in progress”, and that’s become a mantra of sorts for me. Have a great day!

Hi Kestrel. I came across your profile because I added an affirmation that you had added as well. The content of your profile speaks to me. Good luck to you. You don’t need much luck, however; you are well on your way.

In response to laurie’s comment:

The holidays were good, but the New Year is full of challenges. Its certainly putting my determination and commitment to the positive to a number of tests.

Bridget Jones never said anything so right as when she noted (in one of my favorite movies)to the effect that “Just when one area of your life is going well, another falls spectacularly apart.”

Chin up, and Wonder Twin Powers activated. Thank god I’ve got a number of “Twins” with which to assail the world. :)

Hi Laurie!

I feel like I have been to the Moon and back, and not really in a good way. Its been a very hard year thus far. About a week after I last dropped you a note, I injured my back by pulling the ligament that runs under my left shoulder blade.

It took several months before I was not waking up in shattering pain with muscles that would not contract. It was a real learning experience on how to slowly bring your body slowly from one state to another, slowly day by day to return to “normal”.

Not to bore you with all the details, but suffice to say that I’ve been coping with challenges such as a friends who was hospitalized for shattered hip, another losing their Mother, me still job hunting and the sea of debt hitting me with an unexpected rising tide that hit pretty hard. Packed in and around all that, gaining a chunk of weight back that I thought I’d bidden farewell to forever, the ongoing surreality of my personal life (I’d perish of mortification to burden anyone with that!, lol) and the loss of a friendship that I once thought was made of solid diamond. Its been, as one of more colorful military friends likes to term such — “a goat rodeo”.

Pardon the litany of whacky fun! It actually lets me realize that I do have good reasons for not being totally on top of everything currently. And, no, I have not dropped by in a long time.

Thanks for dropping the note, since it reminded me of this site and all the affirmations and help on it. I must confess that the three months spent in rather dire pain knocked out a lot of my old and good habits. I am currently in process of rebuilding them and now is a good time to get back into the habit of doing my affirmations again :)

As my Mom tells me, I can’t help what happens, but I can help how the attitude I have about it:)

Keep on keeping on!

K.
