Keeping God Talk Simple, Yet Awesome

Recently between threads, posts and private emails, I have been approached to share ideas re: my understanding of God.

While I feel God is more than just a thread through all I am and do..It hasn’t been an area that words surfaced easily for sharing in our community…

God has become such an experiential part of my life, that words do not always do these experiences or beliefs justice.

Though I can share ideas, keeping religion -religion and spirituality -spirituality.

Here is something that helped; an Interview With God

Here’s a script of the video:

The Interview With God Poem

I dreamed I had an interview with God.

“So you would like to interview me?” God asked.

“If you have the time” I said.

God smiled. “My time is eternity.”
“What questions do you have in mind for me?”

“What surprises you most about humankind?”

God answered…
“That they get bored with childhood,
they rush to grow up, and then
long to be children again.”

“That they lose their health to make money…
and then lose their money to restore their health.”

“That by thinking anxiously about the future,
they forget the present,
such that they live in neither
the present nor the future.”

“That they live as if they will never die,
and die as though they had never lived.”

God’s hand took mine
and we were silent for a while.

And then I asked…
“As a parent, what are some of life’s lessons
you want your children to learn?”

“To learn they cannot make anyone
love them. All they can do
is let themselves be loved.”

“To learn that it is not good
to compare themselves to others.”

“To learn to forgive
by practicing forgiveness.”

“To learn that it only takes a few seconds
to open profound wounds in those they love,
and it can take many years to heal them.”

“To learn that a rich person
is not one who has the most,
but is one who needs the least.”

“To learn that there are people
who love them dearly,
but simply have not yet learned
how to express or show their feelings.”

“To learn that two people can
look at the same thing
and see it differently.”

“To learn that it is not enough that they
forgive one another, but they must also forgive themselves.”

“Thank you for your time,” I said humbly.

“Is there anything else
you would like your children to know?”

God smiled and said,
“Just know that I am here… always.”

Thank you.

Thanks Laurie for your posts! The video was very cute..

To me, God is like a universal, infinite organism that is made up of everything, including you and me, everything biological and everything not biological, and includes all other dimensions. It is impossible to understand the complexity of God in human terms, but we can get an idea of God while we are in this physical form through our connection to God.

Are my favorite ones. I read in the bible, time and time again that the light that God makes would blind anyone and no one is able to see God’s face. No human has seen God because he is a spirit.

Dear MCM, YES! I love the way you expressed this. It is a “being”, not a feeling. It is an “experience”, not a knowing. Thank you and good to know you. Jan

In response to jancydat’s post:

Well said jan I too loved MCM’s definition of the Creator/God whatever you chose to call him/her. There is a book called “Conversations with God” by Neal Donald Walsch. I went out and bought the video because I loved it so much. The part that stood out for me is when during a speaking engagement Mr. Walsch was asked what his definition of God was. He said, “God said, I am nothing like you think I am.” that really was a pretty great description for me.

Mary

I was getting into bed and I just couldn’t help myself. Atheists crossed my mind.

To me an atheist (I’m speaking generally, but this may well apply to ALL atheists) is someone who cares, often someone who cares deeply, about spiritual truth (or at least they started out that way), but has become so attached to ego that they can’t think clearly. I suspect many of them started out on a journey seeking truth, but because of their ego they gave up the search. Often they try to carry an air of superiority, of trying to appear intellectually honest, but it is really just a sham. I suspect they are riddled with fear. Maybe, just maybe there are real atheists out there, but I’m leaning toward “no”. Some of them have such a strong ego attachment that they will cling to their “denial” of God even on their death bed, but I suspect many, as death approaches, or better yet, is literally knocking on their door, will begin to question their beliefs. Many will resume their search for truth.

I don’t know. I’m sleepy and I suspect I’m being a little simplistic, but it crossed my mind and I felt like posting these thoughts.

This thread reminded me of a post I made a long time ago. I’m glad I was able to find it.Why Religious/Spiritual Teachings Should Not Be Dismissed:
