★Not so old movies

I just saw (quite a bit of) a great movie on tv with some profound messages. I think it’s from last year -called the Jacket. Anyone else see that? It reminded me of another movie I saw called the Butterfly Effect in that, it helped you see that everything that happens is meaningful.

To me, in the Jacket, it was more about seeing life events and if you had the power to change them how great it would be. In the Butterfly effect, (to me), it was more about how even the most “negative” events have their purpose.

Have any of you seen either, if so what did you think?

I’ve seen The Butterfly Effect too but I haven’t seen the Jacket, I’ll have to look it up!

My favorite movie of all time is Fight Club. It is a tremendously underrated and all too often misunderstood movie. Seriously a guide to life in many ways.

It is (I think) intentionally ambiguous and can be taken to be very negative or incredibly positive. If anyone hasn’t seen it I highly recommend it! If you’ve already seen it once, then watch it at least one more time.

We see a lot of great movies, but most of them are foreign, which means we unfortunately forget the names and are never able to find them again. We really should keep a log or something, we occasionally accidentally pick up movies we’ve already seen multiple times because of this!

Lee, you know I will have to see the Fight Club (again). You’d think by the name I would’ve known a bit about it- and shut it off before it had a chance to finish. I will and think of your recommendation and check it out again.

When you see the Jacket, let me know what you think. I’m not sure how much of the beginning I missed—but I enjoyed it. I am going to see if I can rent it.

You said you were into foreign films, there was one I loved years ago—with angels in it. They looked like people and gently helped people in their lives. Does that ring a bell to you or anyone else?

Wow I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t seen Bladerunner! I’m going to try and get a hold of that, I’ve heard good things and wikipedia has some interesting information on it.

Has anyone seen “The Flying Scotsman”? It is very uplifting.

Just watched the movie Doubt

A fantastic film with amazing performances from Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams. Highly recommended!

On the weekend we saw Vicky Cristina Barcelona and LOVED IT!

We knew it was written and directed by Woody Allen so we had high hopes anyway, and when we saw that Javier Bardem, Scarlett Johansson and Penélope Cruz were starring in it we got even more excited.

It far exceeded all expectations though, an amazing movie!

Tonight, we watched Changeling

It’s directed by Clint Eastwood, starred Angelina Jolie and was based on a true story so we weren’t expecting much. It wasn’t too bad! Quite touching actually! Although the acting wasn’t quite as good as the Woody Allen flick we watched just the other night.

Just saw Bridget Jones’s Diary. I really loved it. Found it funny and refreshing. Yes, it’s not quite new, though I fell asleep through it first time I had an opportunity to see it. I must’ve been tired, because it was very enjoyable.

Is that the one where the girl is in the jail in Thailand and she’s talking about how terrible her boyfriend was? I really liked that scene!

In response to Lee Nutter’s post:

Lee, I have finally scratched off “See Movie: Fight Club” off of my things I want to accomplish. For the longest time, I couldn’t possibly see how a fighting movie could possibly fit in with the theme of this website. I am a professional at procrastination – since I’ve only been reading about this movie on bMindful for nine months!!

However, my oldest son brought a copy of the movie over for us to watch this weekend. So, I figured the universe was sending me a strong message. Boy! I was amazed. What a cool movie!!

I had to put on my filters (and blinders) because I’m a bit of a weenie when it comes to blood and fighting. However, the messages that were in the movie were pretty awesome.

This isn’t a movie for children in the room, but I highly recommend watching it and learning from our friend, Tyler. :)

Thanks for the recommendation, Lee.
