Pollyanna (2003 ) part 1

title character is named Pollyanna Whittier, a young orphan who goes to live in Beldingsville, Vermont, with her wealthy but stern Aunt Polly. Pollyanna’s philosophy of life centers on what she calls “The Glad Game”, an optimistic attitude she learned from her father. The game consists of finding something to be glad about in every situation. It originated in an incident one Christmas when Pollyanna, who was hoping for a doll in the missionary barrel, found only a pair of crutches inside. Making the game up on the spot, Pollyanna’s father taught her to look at the good side of things—in this case, to be glad about the crutches because “we didn’t need to use them!”

With this philosophy, and her own sunny personality and sincere, sympathetic soul, Pollyanna brings so much gladness to her aunt’s dispirited New England town that she transforms it into a pleasant place to live. The Glad Game shields her from her aunt’s stern attitude: when Aunt Polly puts her in a stuffy attic room without carpets or pictures, she exults at the beautiful view from the high window; when she tries to “punish” her niece for being late to dinner by sentencing her to a meal of bread and milk in the kitchen with the servant Nancy, Pollyanna thanks her rapturously because she likes bread and milk, and she likes Nancy.

Soon, Pollyanna teaches some of Beldingsville’s most troubled inhabitants to “play the game” as well, from a querulous invalid named Mrs. Snow to a miserly bachelor, Mr. Pendleton, who lives all alone in a cluttered mansion. Aunt Polly, too—finding herself helpless before Pollyanna’s buoyant refusal to be downcast—gradually begins to thaw, although she resists the glad game longer than anyone else.

Young Frankenstein is brilliant! The movie has tons of funny stuff. My favorite scene is the one with the blind hermit. I remember seeing this at the movies years ago. I was literally crying with laughter.

I also love Dumb and Dumber for it’s absolute sillyness. There are a few scenes that make me ache with laughter. I particularly like when Jeff Daniels hit’s Lauren (I can’t remember her last name) with the snowball, when Jim Carrey says “That John Denver’s full of shit!”, and when one of them tags the other with the walking cane! I’m laughing right now just thinking about it.

I just thought of another one! About A Boy is definitely a feel good movie, to me anyway.

I just watched the DVD “Death at a Funeral”, which was an English comedy, done as only the English can. (Yes I am originally from England). It was hilarious even though it was so silly and predictable.

I rented a couple of good “family” movies in the dollar section the other day. One was called “Duma”, it was about an orphaned cheetah. And I also rented “Lassie” 2006. Both were good straight forward feel good movies suitable for kids and enjoyable for adults.

Just watched “Sunshine Cleaning”, it was very good. It’s not a comedy, it’s more about trying to make it in this world, I really enjoyed it.

You have to see “Nothng To Lose” with Martin Short and Timothy Robbins. They are such an unlikely pair that at first I thought it wouldn’t be too funny. Wow everyone in the audience couldn’t stop laughing. Especially the part of the Tarantula.

i love mel brooks and ann bancroft in the movie “ to be or not to be” jerry lewis is another favorite. and i adore carl burnett. and the whole cast of the carol burnett show. so many great comics.

There’s Shawshank Redemption, hardly any movies with such good dialogue.
Have any of you seen Pixar’s UP. I was told that it’s in the top 5 movies which can make grown men cry :).

I like the movie Ed Wood. He’s like a crazy optimist the way Johnny Depp plays him. It doesn’t matter that his movies all bombed, he was enjoying his life. (At least before he became alcoholic. The movie stops before that part of his life.)
Also, I like Dracula: Dead and Loving It for the scene where Renfield wakes up to the vampire women. “Wrong me! Wrong me!” Obviously Young Frankenstein is classic Mel Brooks but I think Dead and Loving It is pretty close to classic. Pete MacNicol steals the movie. …and Real Genius. That one is another underrated classic. Haven’t seen it in awhile. I’m going to rent it.

I love the Carry On movies… and anythung with Johnny Depp… I love animation especially the new computer kind… but my real love is the movie WEver After, I just like the way the whole story was spun… it seemed so believable… Pay It Forward is another good one….

I love this film so much because it takes me back to my childhood ,the freedom to run and play in the lovely lancashire countryside .That bit near the end were the three children are skipping by the trees makes me feel like I’m their age again

This film is called the gift of hope, I think of it as a gift from you tube and the person who shared it on there you tube channel. Quite profound in it's facts and funny as well. I would think it would appeal to anybody predisposed to alcoholism because it is how one very tall man with a heck of alot of tenacity and determination saved himself and scores of others from this fatal affliction that about 10% of the free worlds population is afflicted. Actually the duo of Bob and Bill is what created the AA gift of hope to many a millions, not a guarantee but  a chance for any individual who need a way to stop killing themselves with alcohol or perhaps drugs but drugs were not as prevalent as booze in those days.  In any event I'm posting this for entertainment value and to give some accurate clarity how AA was born. The chain of events that were necessary are numerous and I tend to believe that god had a hand in guiding all the events to a solid bedrock of possible sobriety for a day a year or 50 years of abstinence. For me personally I needed a sequence of graces not directly associated with AA. Help from the grace of god  is what it was that branched out from my efforts in AA to stay free of booze 24 hours at a time.  Enough rambling some will resonate with this film and that's a reason to present it.
