Laurie's Power Music*

Everyone has music and times that put them in a state of…shhhhhhh my song is on, and the music takes you somewhere else, and that song becomes yours.

I was listening to some songs that do that for me, and decided to get a thread going with my favorites that give me my thrill.

Just like Jeff (MCM), started a Powertool-thread, and I followed with things that work for me, hoping that others would like it or start one of their own, the same goes for the Power Music Threads. Start One of your own & we will get to know each other so well by listening to each others ‘take me there’-kind of music.

I will start with Bruce Springsteen. His older music was what I really liked (about 35 years older (: )

I promise there will be more than Bruce. I have to admit, if you’ve ever been to a Bruce concert, at the time->there was a feeling of there not being much more. Somehow (in person), he and his band kept everyone mesmerized. You didn’t have to understand all of the lyrics, they somehow made sense when you learned them. You sang them like they were poetry, whether they were meaningless to you or not(:

A little commentary story behind early Bruce and his concerts Part 1

Check this out, all of Springsteen’s groups and how they evolved before 1970 to now

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
1. E street Shuffle Part 1
2. E Street Shuffle Part 2

To Keep up w/spirit of this concert, and the mood of the E Street Band you have to listen to this song in 2 parts to get the full deal. I love this 2 parter song!

->It’s called E. Street Shuffle Part 1

->And without Part 2 of E Street Shuffle, just isn’t complete

I try hard to get into Bruce’s more current style as he has gotten older -> but it just misses a bit of the spark for me. Though, it’s still a party with Bruce;same song 32 years later

Great exercise music!

#3 Spirit In The Night

I love this live-version of Spirit In The Night

More BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN

#4 10th Avenue Freezeout #5 Later version same song-10 Avenue Freeze Out Springsteen 10th Avenue Freeze Out with surprise performance from the legendary Clarence Clemmons This was sung a bit later, after sax-player Clarence was no longer a regular. That’s why this performance was so special. Clarence surprised Bruce on stage at this concert.

For a little variation w/the same song, Bruce and Clarence from when they were in their prime

More Bruce
And last but not least this is from the other night Rock and Roll Hall of Fame… Springsteen and Sam and others singing Hold on and Soul Man I know it’s not from today’s music, but Rock and Roll never dies

Laurie
Thanks for the introduction to Bruce!
I’ve never been a big fan – none in my vast cd collection.
I grew up with many of his hits, but I don’t know why, I just never really got into him – My favorites were Rush, Styx, REO, Sting, Led Zeppelin, The Beetles, John Cougar, Foreigner, Genesis, Loverboy, Phil Collins….
After listening to some of your links above, I could become a fan yet.

In response to BKW’s post:
Hi Brian. Thanks for checking out my favorites. It was really nice to share(:
I’m not a fan of Bruce’s newer music (hardly at all). He was something to see in the 70’s! His newer albums just didn’t excite me like the old stuff.

I went to your music thread, and left you a message

This is the year I was introduced to Bruce-1975 A song called Thundercrack around 1975 or before

12.Prove It All Night coming soon!
To enjoy Bruce when you’re not at one of his concerts, listen to a whole song. This type of music isn’t around anymore. Experience it.
When I first listened (before seeing him), I couldn’t see the large attraction. His music was a party. When I began moving around on my own, Bruce’s music accompanied me, and life remained a party inside whereever I was.

13. Bruce in 85’ playing in Paris Born To Run

In a interview from the early 80’s Springsteen explains his own outlook on his work:

“Life is a struggle. That’s basically what the songs are about. It’s the fight everyone goes through every day. Some people have more success with it than others. I’m a romantic. To me, the idea of a romantic is someone who sees the reality, lives the reality every day, but knows about the possibilities too. You can’t lose sight of the dreams. That’s what great rock is about to me, it makes the dream seem possible.” ———————- Southside Johnny has his own big following, though he used to play with Bruce.

This is a video where Southside asks Bruce to sing with him in a real party atmosphere. It’s a little rowdy, though listen and you will (most likely) enjoy.
And for a larger screen, press where it says youtube on the screen.
14. Southside Johnny and Bruce Sprinsteen sing I Don’t Want To Go Home

Lyrics To Landslide

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life

Well, Ive been afraid of changing
cause Ive built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
Im getting older too

Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down

If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe the landslide will bring it down

Love your tunes!
Isn’t it amazing how music can affect your psyche? I mean the way hearing a song can “take you back” to a place in time.
Keep them coming.

you’ve gotta love youtube!

In response to BKW’s post:
It’s been doing wonders for me for the very reason you mentioned(: When I take my breaks, the music is revitalizing me->keeping me from that over-worked feeling.

I’m glad you’re enjoying my choices. It makes it much more fun to share (here). And yes, youtube is the best!

I’ve been getting caught up with music tonight. I worked 10 hours, and came home ready to make a lot of food for tonight and tomorrow. I’m still going to cook, but I was cookin’ right here listening to tunes(:

I’ll probably take some songs off and add some. Though it was fun. I’ll be back. And thanks for sharing. It was lovely(:

People Gotta Be Free was their last song.
People Gotta Be Free
30 years later w/Felix Cavaliere singing People gotta be Free

people gotta be free for the troops in 2007 Love fest

All the world over, so easy to see
People everywhere just wanna be free
Listen, please listen, that’s the way it should be
Peace in the valley, people got to be free
You should see, what a lovely, lovely world this would be
If everyone learned to live together
It seems to me such an easy, easy thing this would be
Why can’t you and me learn to love one another
All the world over, so easy to see
People everywhere just wanna be free
I can’t understand it, so simple to me
People everywhere just got to be free
Ah, ah, yeah . . . ah, ah, yeah
If there’s a man who is down and needs a helping hand
All it takes is you to understand and to see him through
Seems to me, we got to solve it individually
And I’ll do unto you what you do to me
There’ll be shoutin’ from the mountains on out to sea
(out to the sea)
No two ways about it, people have to be free
(they got to be free)
Ask me my opinion, my opinion will be
(ah-ha)
It’s a natural situation for a man to be free
Oh, what a feelin’s just come over me
Enough to move a mountain, make a blind man see
Everybody’s dancin’, come on, let’s go see
Peace in the valley, now they want to be free

Thank you Laurie for pointing that out. Here is a great one.

Free Me

Lyrics to Free Me
Joss Stone
(mmm…Hey! All right now! ooh)
Ain’t I got you on your back foot
And you know I got you really good
Cuz there’s something deep inside of me
I’ve got to be

And if you find it hard to follow me
If I lose you in my jet stream
Than you only got to raise your eyes
And see me fly

Don’t tell me that I won’t
I can
Don’t tell me that I’m not
I am
Don’t tell me that my master plan
Ain’t coming true (yeah!)

Don’t tell me that I won’t
I will
Don’t tell me how to think
I feel
Don’t tell me cause I know what’s real
What I can do

Something that you don’t see every day
A little girl who found her way
Through a world that’s designed to break
All of your dreams

And if there’s one thing I will say to you
It’s that there is nothing that you can’t do
Cuz it’s all about your attitude
Don’t let them get to you

Don’t tell me that I won’t
I can
Don’t tell me that I’m not
I am
Don’t tell me that my master plan
Ain’t coming true

Don’t tell me that I won’t
I will
Don’t tell me how to think
I feel
Don’t tell me cause I know what’s real
What I can do
What I can do

(Oh yeah! Yeah! ooh ooh (giggle) mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm Hey! ooh yeah!)

And we are singing in our own voice
We can make the choice to be free (to be free now!)

And we are singing it our own voice
We can make the choice to be free (to be free now!)

Music hey L.U.V. I love it (yeah hey eh yeah!)
Music, now, now, now eh L.U.V. baby I love it (eh) yes I do now

Don’t tell me that I won’t
I can
Don’t tell me that I’m not
I am
Don’t tell me that my master plan
Ain’t coming true
Don’t tell me that I won’t
I will
Don’t tell me how to think
I fell
Don’t tell me cause I know what’s real

Here is another one with the same guy
