MAY 2016 What would Aristotle do? Or Plato? Or...

Just wanted to share some food for thought. Philosophy can help you deal with problems and live happier lives.

Facing Hard Times, What would Aristotle do

Epicurus, or What Makes People Happy

What gives you peace and makes you happy? Plato said that most people don’t think, but, they should think, really, really think about their problems and what matters to them. Not passively thinking, but, really thinking.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

Plato

not playdo that is the silly puddy stuff from childhood.

Once you get to know Twain, you’ll never be the same.

In response to Smart_Routines_With_Enthusiasm’s post:

Aristotle would add this guys channel, or not

Once you get to know Twain, you’ll never be the same.

ARISTOTLE WOULD BUY MANY CASES OF WATER AND HIBERNATE.

Once you get to know Twain, you’ll never be the same.

Aristotle would say this is work of becoming who you truly are  …a life formed by practice, balance, and wise choice.

He’d say you are training virtues: gratitude, tenderness, courage, curiosity .., not by grand declarations but by the small, steady acts that turn learned helplessness into passion.

That steady work is how habits become character.

He’d desire you to hold each quality in the right measure: gratitude that strengthens, not numbs; bravery that’s tempered by good sense ; tenderness that honors your dignity.

Things spoken act as reminders are our practice of practical action …the practical wisdom that tells you what to do in the changing moment.

Grief, in his view, isn’t an obstacle to flourishing but a profound emphasis on one’s development or room in the soul where virtues grow;

let it evolve there without trying to banish it
Let life thrill you Let activity that lights you up be the essence of your existence

Place your capacities in a place to meet your  purpose, the kind of doing that makes flourishing common practice.
A Plato word eudaemonia

Plato would say:

keep your cues/signals- they are teaching you/ don’t overly label or try to understand everything

keep your small practices, and keep choosing what deepens you.
That is living well
