excerptThe ego is part of our survival mechanism. It is meant to keep us safe and from harm, and it has an uncanny need to always be moving, acquiring, doing or achieving something or standing for or against something. While the ego in itself is not a bad thing, it becomes a bit of a block when we accidentally mistake ourselves for it which can happen quite frequently.
When we are grounded and centered, we can observe the ego and its’ preferences without mistaking ourselves for it. We are no longer consumed by what happens, what is said and whether or not it has offended us because we are still, grounded and focused. All of our attention is in this moment and if our ego begins coming through we can make the distinction and not mistake ourselves for it.
This takes a great amount of practice. What would it take for a person to be completely 100% unaffected by others? I still don’t have the answer but I am practicing this more and more everyday.
