Mental health impacts of the California fires: What to expect and how to cope.
Psychological Phases of Disaster
1) pre-impact, 2) impact, 3) heroic, fueled by the adrenalin rush people generally act to save property and lives, 4) honeymoon, wherein there is a general sense of relief and gratitude, perhaps even a congratulatory atmosphere, and 5) disillusionment, a predictable psychological let-down characterized by grief, regret, anger, second-guessing, and exhaustion. The field of disaster mental health was largely created to mitigate this phase and accelerate phases 6) recovery and 7) reconstruction.

- ►• THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRAYER AND AFFIRMATION
Affirmations and prayer are similar. In prayer, we seek help from our Higher Power. An affirmation is a statement of the prayer as though the result is already accomplished. For example, one might pray, “Lord, grant me even-mindedness under all conditions.” The corresponding affirmation would be, “I am even-minded under all conditions.”
Those who understand themselves to be co-creators and cooperators with their Higher Power can combine the use of prayer and affirmation. For example, it has often been said that God helps those who help themselves. When we work with affirmations, we are helping ourselves. Prayer is the request for God’s grace as a means of getting help with the problem. Phillip Shapiro

BE YOU
Here is what happens when you experience trauma
- Hippocampus: It is the centre that takes care of emotion and memory but it shrinks in the event of a traumatic event
- Amygdala: It is the part of the brain that looks after creativity and due to trauma, its function increases
- Anterior Cingulate: It is the centre for functions like planning and self-development but its function decreases due to trauma
BE YOU
While the California fires definitely give life perspective , it is importance to remember everyone is going thru something. Some have difficulty seeing beyond their own challenges and others can’t seem to look at their challenges at all or with needed perspective.
Lets just love everyone and give others the empathy we are capable of.
