I would say not to be over emphasize or try to change it. Rather simply accept a shadow side is innate in all humans.
So then, accepting that I have a dark side is the first step toward being free of it In other words simply acknowledging to your conscious mind that it your dark side is part of the human condition in conjunction with your brighter or more reasonable side, is all the that is required to be kinder to yourself and others.
Once you get to know Twain, you’ll never be the same.
