Intro repeated :

The Meeting opened January  4, 2023

… a brand new year, a brand new month, brand new day and yes yes yes … a brand new moment.

For many, you are experiencing a ‘luxury’ of your foundation remaining the same …the basics that is.

Why do I say a luxury? If you are someone who knows how fortunate … how blessed you are in any given moment , then you most probably are benefiting from a state of gratitude every day.

You most probably are choosing to expound on the good you have and co-creating it to greater ideal in at least some major areas of your life. You enjoy your passionate life.
You also understand the value of your inner world - which does in fact assist greatly in creating your outer world.

Though, if you  are among the many that have had major changes in your life, and starting fresh is more of a reality than you ever planned for …more profound if you will, then either way this Happiness Meeting is for you .

Though, lastly … though not least… if you have difficulty with gratitude and/ or optimism… I invite you to grow your joy and possibilities also with this fresh new meeting of 2023

So what is this topic - It’s Learned  Optimism & Resiliency

 Learned Optimism  originated from Positive Psychology; Dr Martin Seligman.

Seligman's approach is known as the "ABCDE" model of learned optimism:

  • Adversity: The situation that calls for a response
  • Belief: How we interpret the event
  • Consequence: The way that we behave, respond, or feel
  • Disputation: The effort we expend to argue or dispute the belief
  • Energization: The outcome that emerges from trying to challenge our beliefs

My definition of greatness

is to be greater than your environment,

to be greater than your body,

and to be greater than time.

And if you do, you will be great.

Learned optimism
Learned optimism is the idea in positive psychology that a talent for joy, like any other, can be cultivated. In contrast with learned helplessness, optimism is learned by consciously challenging any negative self talk.Wikipedia

A table from Jan Johnson at Learning in Action Technologies lists 23 strategies that can be used to self regulate individually or as a team member in a relationship.

The strategies are categorized into two groups: “Positive or Neutral” and “Negative or Neutral.”

examples in 1 of the quadrants i”Alone Focus, Positive or Neutral”  include:

Positive self-talk (“I can,” “I’m sufficient” messages);Go inside with intentional nurturing of self.Consciously attend to breathing, relaxing;

Exercise;

Movement;

Awareness of body sensations;

Attending to care for body, nutrition;

Meditation and prayer;

Self-expression: art ,  music, dance writIng etc.;

Caring, nurturing self-talk;

Laughing, telling jokes;

Another idea for

reflection question

Using some of the above examples - which areas are very part of you right now

For myself, I would definitely begin with:

Attending to care for body, nutrition.

The other day I was listening to an old audio I had created , and with an incredible amount of joy and passion I described the foods I had eaten, the meal I wanted to include for my spouse… and thoughts/feelings and plans for my workout. This is me naturally . At this time in my life- these areas still matter, I am just needing to start fresh as to how I can incorporate these areas in my life now under newer conditions.

Next, though not least - just included as a high priority:

Caring, nurturing self-talk;

& Writing

Meditation & Prayer - very much!
