For me, the term Jazz is a very broad one. I am going to post a wide variety of music that I think fits into this into this category for one reason or another. A Jazz purist would probably have a conniption. I am just gonna post a few things by some various artist so that you can get a taste of their music and follow up on the ones you like. I’m gonna’ come back to this original post when I add stuff, that way you guys won’t have to do so much scrolling around finding stuff.

Al DiMeola is truly a great guitarist. I actually got to meet him. Much of his music has a strong spanish flavor. He plays like greased lightening.
Al DiMeola Passion Grace& Fire
Al DiMeola Race with the Devil on a Spanish Highway

Bobby Enriquez blows me away. I think he’s from Korea and he plays by ear, but don’t hold me to that. I’m not positive. One thing I am positive about though is that this guy is amazing. Wait ‘til you hear his verson of the Mason Williams tune Classical Gas. The clip is kinda rough, but it will amaze you.

Jazz Banjo? Yea, you heard me right! Bela Fleck is a real treat, as is his whole group. Victor Wooten is one of the worlds finest bass players. The drums are by “The Spaceman”, he’s the dude with the wierd looking instrument. It’s a synth guitar.

What can be said about Maynard Ferguson? I thought this was an ‘old guy’ over 20 years ago when I first heard him, and he’s still blastin’ away!
Inspirational to music students everywhere. He has helped many, many, many musicians start their careers. If you listen to La Fiesta be sure to hang in there until the powerful trumpet duet around 5:30. Man those cats can blow! Here are a few, but I found many more on youtube. Worth checking out.

Here’s a piece I always dug the crap out of! That drum solo gets me every time! “Saaaaamokin!”
Benny Goodman and his Orchestra Sing, Sing, Sing

Here is another timeless classic. If you don’t like this one, then I’m just gonna’ have to come and smack you on the back of the head. ;)

Chet Atkins Orange Blossom Special
There is something really special about Chet Atkins style and tone that really makes him stand out.
Another great is George Benson. I really should explore more of his stuff. This is one of really great songs that really sticks to your ribs.

I don’t have time right now to listen to your tunes, but I will. Knowing you, whatever you post will be poifect and if you redefine jazz, more power to you(smiles)

Wow MCM, that Classical Gas you posted was phenomenal! I’m not sure I know Bobby Enriquez.

I just heard Classical Gas the other day at a store, by the only person I knew that did it; Mason Williams Classical Gas

While I was listening to your version- spotted Eric Clapton playing it too

All quite different, huh?

Love Miles Davis with his high energy grooves but when I’m in a mellow/more contemporary mood I love Spirogyra – particularly the song ‘morning dance’. It just like a summer breeze, so uplifting and free.
I also love the track ‘Smile’ by Dianne Reeves. Great mood lifters.

Oh, and I love a bit of Ella too!

A full and thankful heart..

I know the Spyrogyra, but not the Dianne Reeves. I’ll have to check it out. I’ll see if I can find Morning Dance for you. There ya go! I saw them live many moons ago.

Here’s some more stuff, I’ll bet you will like.
I didn’t know about Dianne Reeves, but here it is. I like it too.

I don’t know if this technically would be considered jazz, but I throw a lot of stuff in with what “I” kind of think of a jazz. Here’s a great piece by the Gipsy Kings Montana
I don’t speak Spanish, but it sure sounds beautiful. I think it’s something about a mountain. Anyone out there care to translate these lyrics for me?

My Spanish is limited to the essentials: Nessiceto la banyo, vamos a comare tacos, vamos a tomar cervesas and the all important donde esta la playa nudista

I love jazz and all these tunes you guys have posted. All of them!

Here’s a couple that are off the beaten path.

Freygan on the “backpack” thread mentioned his shakuhachi so I started listening to YouTube and immediately found this awesome couple. Maybe it’s not jazz. Just some jazz tones. Keiko Matsui (pianist) and her husband Kazu

And as long as we’re in the wind instruments, here’s definitely jazz. Toots Thielemans on harmonica

Did I say I love jazz? I love jazz. Just in case I didn’t say it.

Awesome AccidentalNote. Keep posting. I love it. Sometimes I feel like I’m ALL ALONE in here!!! Those were both great posts, thanks for sharing.
