In response to flowergirl’s post:
Sorry ): Did you figure this out by how you feel alone…or were you tested in some way? Would a site like this help too?? It seems to help choose foods that leave out what you want to avoid. I only took a look today…Best to you flowergirl…keep us informed.

This is a topic I’m unfortunately very familiar with. For years I’ve been unable to eat wheat or dairy, now I’ve tested positive for fructose malabsorption. Doesn’t leave much to eat! Meeting with a dietitian next month, getting an appointment with people who specialise in fuctose malabsorption is difficult!

Some days I get discouraged and don’t each much at all. Some days I get frustrated and eat something I shouldn’t and spend the next three or four days regretting it. Sometimes I unknowingly eat something I shouldn’t and spend three or four days regretting it. It’s still such a new discovery (for me, and as a whole – they now think three out of four people with IBS actually have fructmal) and it’s difficult to really know what to eat. The online resources leave much to be desired and contradict each other more than they agree. I’ve been experimenting with this for year so I know a bit about it but because one meal can upset me for days, and I might start showing symptoms right away, or not until the next day, and then for up to three or four days, or not, so it’s incredibly difficult to pick what’s causing what.

So yeah, my sympathies are with you. It isn’t easy, and feeling generally ill because of something you ate really sucks, especially when you’re so damn healthy (I barely touch processed food, and haven’t for many years) and especially when it’s a nearly every day. And no-one else seems to understand either, I still get idealists looking down on me for eating meat again, when it’s one of the few things that doesn’t cause me to be on the loo every few minutes or in pain for days…

I’d be very interested to hear the kind of diet they have you try..My best to you Lee..too (: Would you be able to have hemp milk?

…..just looked up the kinds of food that you’d have to avoid….wow ): I’m truly going to send some positive thoughts/prayer your way….so very sorry you are going through this.

Are there decent things to do for the discomfort?

hi Laurie and Lee ,
I had a test done months ago Laurie at the health shop and thats were these things showed up ,he said it could be an overload – as a veggie i eat a lot of things with these in .
I had not eaten bread for a few weeks until monday when i had butties (sandwhiches ) for dinner and within an hour i was totally exhausted ,had to sit down in bookshop for a while as even walking was a struggle .
I do have wheat free pasta now as i feel so low and my face swells after eating wheat pasta.

Im thinking a lot of my struggles with energy, motivation, mood could be down to what i eat as well as the colitis, arthritis, acid reflux, high b p .

I once read somewhere if you lived off fruit, veg, seeds and nuts your body would get everything you need and its tempting to try by myself before i pay out to this website.

Lee ,im so sorry for what you have to cope with, and reactions from others dont help do they .I hope the dietician can help .I understand your frustration ,i do eat junk and know its not helping but when you dont and still suffer thats hard .We cant win ,i get told its because i dont eat meat that i have no energy .

I hope you can get some help to feel better
