Get ready to be bombarded! I know LOTS of sax players!

Sonny Rollins Strode Rode

Saxophone Colossus is a great jazz album if anyone wants to explore the world of “real” jazz.

Dave Koz is more mainstream Faces of the Heart

A jazz diehard might give you a hard time for calling this jazz. Same thing for Kenny G.

Here’s Branford Marsalis
Some of you guys might recognize him, he played with Sting some.
He comes from a pretty famous musical family, anyway, I was in a bar once in New Orleans, and Delfeayo Marsalis came in. I thought I recognized him but wasn’t sure so I asked the bartender and he said that that was who it was. I know this sounds silly, but I got goosebumps. I should have said hello but I felt kinda silly so I didn’t.

Here’s Delfeayo doing What a Wonderful World
He’s not a sax player, but this is the guy I saw.

Here’s Wynton doing Napoli

Here is their famous dad, Ellis doing Love For Sale

Stan Getz is another great player. Getz/Gilberto is a pretty famous album that is considered a cornerstone for any serious jazz collection. One of the great things about this album is that it is easy to like even for non-jazz folks.

David Sanborn is another excellent saxophone player. This is a crappy video of Slam but I couldn’t find any vids with good quality sound. He did some really good stuff with Bob James. Double Vision is a really good cd. Some of you may recognize him from the David Letterman show where he plays with Paul Schaffer on occasion.

Hank Mobley is another one of those easily accessible true jazz artists that you should give a listen. Here’s Soul Station from the great album with the same title. Stretch your ears a little and give this a listen.

Earnie Watts is another excellent sax man. Here he is with Lee Ritenour (whom I got to meet and will list under the guitar thread) doing a piece called 24th Street Blues

This cool even to me and I can’t stand rap “music”.

Okay, that’s about it for me, though I know there are a lot of other great players out there, especially in the world of jazz that I have no clue about.
